Contents Notes | The poster's central panel depicts Montezuma standing in front of the solar stone symbolizing the cosmos, next to a strip of symbols referring to the 18 years of Montezuma's reign and final conquest by Cortez. Columns on outer left and right depict symbols for the names of 20-day periods in the 260-day religious cycle ("tonalpohualli") in the Aztec calendar; Aztec numerals in the base 20 system; images from the Aztec Borgia manuscript showing math used to predict marriage outcomes; and examples of Texcocan or Texcucan calculations of land area for taxation purposes.
