Abstract
The general goal of the study was to investigate stochastic and deterministic models as a means of identifying and evaluating the pertinent parameters affecting runoff from small watersheds. In doing this, it was we hoped to develop information and design criteria for the many water resources development projects being contemplated in Ohio and in the larger physiographic plateau of Appalachia. The hydrologic phenomena were investigated using the Stanford Streamflow Simulation Model. Also, a fundamental approach to watershed modeling was initiated to solve the two-dimensional Darcian partial differential equations to obtain the infiltration component of the hydrologic cycle and to solve the equations of flow over an infiltrating watershed. The effects of strip mining and conservation practices on the quality of runoff water were also investigated.
