This publication and its companion three volumes are the proceedings of a conference held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, April 24-29, 1994. Volume 4 includes the six sessions (24 papers) that dealt with such topical issues as fires at abaondoned mine sites, subsidence, hydrology, mine wastes, and policy.
