Solvent Naphtha, light aromatic (C8-10) (CAS No. 64742-95-6) was evaluated for maternal and developmental toxicity. The test substance was administered by oral gavage to mice (24 mated females/group) on gestation days 6-15 at dose levels of 0, 125, 625, and 1,250 mg/kg/day. As compared to controls, animals treated with 125 mg/kg/day and above had a slightly increased incidence of excessive salivation. At 625 mg/kg/day and above, maternal weight gain and food consumption was significantly reduced, compared to controls. At 1,250 mg/kg/day, there was staining of the anogenital area, alopecia of the legs, reduced fetal weights, and increased incidence of skeletal malformations. No other embryotoxic or teratogenic effects were noted at any dose level. |
