Abstract |
The paper is an update on U.S. research to develop tools and information for evaluating integrated solid waste management strategies. In the past, waste management systems consisted primarily of waste collection and disposal at a local landfill. Today's municipal solid waste management systems often are complex and highly integrated. The paper gives an overview of the research underway by the U.S. EPA to produce tools and information needed to develop efficient strategies. In addition, findings from recent case studies that illustrate how these tools can be applied are also presented. |
