Abstract | This introductory-level course provides participants with an overview of the treatment technologies most frequently used for cleanups at uncontrolled waste sites. The emphasis of the course is on the selection of appropriate treatment technologies, rather than on the design of such systems. It is intended for new on-scene coordinators, remedial project managers, waste site managers, and other personnel interested in treatment technologies. Topics that are discussed include chemical and physical characteristics, general response actions, waste treatability, bulking, groundwater treatment, separation techniques, soil vapor extraction, air and steam stripping, carbon adsorption, inorganic treatment, biological treatment units, thermal treatment units, and emerging treatment technologies. |
