Abstract |
Incineration is rapidly becoming an important means of municipal sludge disposal as municipalities upgrade their wastewater facilities to comply with the Clean Water Act requirements. New or modified sludge incinerators are regulated by the New Source Performance Standards; NSPS requires the installation of sludge feed monitoring devices, to determine the amount of sludge charged to the incinerator. A survey of municipal incinerators in several EPA regions was conducted, to determine what is being done to conform with NSPS requirements. From these survey results, technical and cost information on sludge monitoring systems meeting NSPS requirements was compiled as a data base to guide regional offices and state agencies in their review and evaluation of feed monitoring devices. |
