"Methodologies are described for calculating critical loads of the heavy metals: lead, cadmium, copper, zinc, nickel, chromium, and mercury for surface waters. The various aspects which are discussed are: (i) selection of a receptor of concer, (ii) assessment of critical limits for the various metals in surface waters, sediments and fish, (iii) description and application of computation models in relation to the critical limits used, (iv) collection of input data and (v) assessment of the various sources of uncertainty. The computation models described are based on the concept of equilbrium partioning between dissolved and adsorbed phases in surface water and sediment compartments in a steady-state and dynamic situation."--Abstract. |
