The document presents selected industrial profiles based on Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) data. The profiles indicate work force characteristics such as distribution and health or injury accidents. Data summaries are presented graphically and in tabular form for nine geographic regions. The industries included were the primary metal industries, iron and steel industry, petroleum and coal products, rubber and miscellaneous plastics products, lumber and wood products industries, chemicals and allied products, construction industries, mining, motor vehicles and equipment industries, agricultural production, textile industries, machinery (except electrical) industries, and stone, clay and glass products industries. A description of the SEAS Economic Model used to derive trends in employment and productivity was included. A national overview of the United States labor force was provided, including the 1977 data summary of the labor force, the 1977 characterization of industrial sectors, economic projections for 1975 through 2000, lists of industries studied and their capital expenditures, the states included in the nine United States census divisions and a map showing these divisions. |
