Abstract | This compilation of papers by 14 eminent authorities from government, academia, industry, and other institutions deals with research and policy problems facing EPA from recent and prospective changes in the availability of such natural resources as energy, minerals, agricultural land, and clean air and water. Among its major themes are the complex nature of interactions among resources, environments, and social values; and the need for research into the patterns of these interactions. Other themes call for increased research emphasis on patterns of resource flow and usage, on economic and social incentives for controlling the environment, on emergent potentially critical ecological problems, on several specific applied research and technology development programs, and on environmental monitoring and assessment techniques. The papers were delivered at a 1975 symposium held at Stanford Research Institute. |
