Abstract | The 1-acre Central Illinois Public Service (CIPS) site is a former manufactured gas plant in Taylorville, Christian County, Illinois. The plant produced a low-quality gas from coal, which was used for lighting and heating. Onsite contamination by coal tar was discovered in 1985 during site construction. The ROD addressesses a final remedy for the remaining principal threat posed by ground water contamination at the site, and also documents the prior 1987 removal action. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil, sediment, debris, and ground water at the site are VOCs, including benzene, toluene, and xylenes; and other organics, including PAHs and phenols. |
