Abstract | Isopropanol (CAS No. 67-63-0) was tested for developmental toxicity. The test substance was administered orally in the drinking water at 0, 0.5, 1.25, and 2.5% to pregnant rats (20/group) on gestation days 6-16. The rats were sacrificed on day 20 for examination. Animals in the two highest dose groups had reduced food and water intake, and a decrease in body weight was noted in the 2.5% group. Mean litter weight decreased with increasing concentration, and there was a statistically significant decrease in mean fetal body weight in the two highest groups compared to controls. No evidence of teratogenicity was noted. |
