The input of phosphorus has been demonstrated to be seasonally dependent. Of the total input, approximately half is potentially available, and one-fourth is immediately available. Inputs due to wet and dry deposition are roughly equal in magnitude. The major source appears to be agriculture with at least 10% due to combustion sources. A model for particulate deposition was used to determine the deposition velocity of phosphorus containing particles. The value of 0.6 cm/sec is considered applicable to other components whose mean diameter is 1 micrometer.
