Abstract |
A sample of secondary butano1 was supplied for an examination of its topical action. The analysis given was 99.5% secondary butanol and 0.5% probably primary alcohol. The butanols would-not appear to be hazardous materials. The oral toxicity is low, the vapor toxicity does not appear to be particularly marked, and the irritant action on the skin was not severe enough to indicate a particular based, We would anticipate trouble, however, from the escape of hot vapors, and it is not impossible for concentrations to be obtained, particularly in non-ventilated areas, such that toxic effects would occur from inhalation. Long-continued exposure of the liquid would be expected to cause an irritation of the skin. |
