Abstract |
The World Meteorological Organization established a network of baseline and regional air monitoring stations and in 1972 invited member countries to participate in a global turbidity and precipitation chemistry measurement program. It is the aim of the organization through this program to determine current levels of atmospheric pollution, and to identify long-term trends in the concentration of significant constituents which may affect the environment sufficiently to induce climatic changes. This publication presents atmospheric turbidity computations, contributed worldwide precipitation chemistry data, and carbon dioxide (CO2) measurements are also included for each parameter when available. Atmospheric turbidity observations submitted to the National Climatic Center on a monthly basis serve as input to tabulations given in this publication. Tabulations are presented for 19 countries. |
