Abstract |
Recent detection of heavy metals in sediments of the Potomac River Estuary has raised sufficient concern to include accumulation of metals as a water quality problem requiring additional study and analysis. Sediment analyses were made during August and September 1970, and again in April 1971. While small concentrations of zinc and manganese were detected in the overlying waters of the estuary, considerable amounts of various heavy metals were recorded by acid extraction determination from the sediment. |
