Abstract |
The biotic community structure of the Des Moines River was assessed in several locations as influenced by a reservoir and a large metropolitan area. Artificial substrate samplers were used as the collecting device and species diversity indices were used for statistical comparison of the communities at various sites in the river. Results showed a significant difference existed between the station above the metropolitan area and the station below the metropolitan area. The community farthest from a 'biological desert' condition was the one immediately below the metropolitan area. |
