Abstract |
Subdivision J, a Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) guideline, prescribes the phytotoxicity study protocols that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends to support the registration of manufacturing-use and formulated end-use products. This subdivision establishes procedures for testing and data submission concerning the effects of pesticides on nontarget plants. The studies outlined by this subdivision will not be required for every product but only for selected chemicals on a case-by-case basis. A summary of the rulemaking phytotoxicity test requirements can be found in 40 CFR Part 158. The results of the phytoxicity studies together with environmental fate and efficacy are used to assess the potential hazard of pesticides on terrestrial and aquatic nontarget plants. Subdivision J constitutes one volume of a twelve-part FIFRA guideline series published by the National Technical Information Service. |
