The earlier US EPA air criteria document, Air Quality Criteria for Lead (EPA-600/8-77-071) has been updated and revised pursuant to section 108 and 109 of the Clean Air Act..., and will be used as a basis for review and, as appropriate, revision of the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for lead. As part of this process, EPA released two external review drafts of the revised criteria document, Air Quality Criteria for Lead (EPA-600/8-82-028A&B), which were made available for public comment and review... A final version of that criteria document incorporating revisions made in response to public comments and review of earlier drafts is in the final stages of preparation. Not fully evaluated in the revised Criteria Document, however, are recently published papers concerning: 1) the relationship between blood lead levels and blood pressure; and 2) lead exposure effects on early growth and stature. The present Addendum to the revised document evaluates newly published information on cardiovascular effects of lead, including assessment of both human and animal toxicology studies... It also discusses newly published data regarding lead effects on growth and stature, as evaluated by epidemiology and animal toxicology studies." p. 1 Introduction. |
