Abstract |
The paper discusses the development of a standardized test method for measuring in door air emissions from office equipment. It is intended to be generally applicable to all types of office equipment and to be analytically sensitive in order to identify the entire range of emissions, including those that may be problematic at lower concentrations. The method is intended to promote uniform testing and research of pollution prevention opportunities rather than to determine regulatory compliance (i.e., if occupational exposure standards are met). Flow-through dynamic test chambers were selected because they are generally applicable to all types of equipment and provide the most versatile data. The paper provides background information on the project and describes the test protocol in detail, including: chamber specifications, sample collection, and analytical equipment. Preliminary results of a validation study of the test method--using dry-process photocopy machines --are also presented. |
