Abstract |
This decision document presents the selected remedial alternative for the Townsend Saw Chain Company Site, Pontiac, Richland County, South Carolina. It addresses the principal threat posed by the Site, which is contaminated groundwater. The selected alternative utilizes an innovative treatment technology referred to herein as 'insitu chemical treatment' to immobilize chromium by chemically altering it to its less-toxic trivalent state, reducing both the toxicity and volume of the affected groundwater. Additionally, continued operation of the Interim Action pump-and-treat system during treatment will also lessen the mobility and volume of contaminated groundwater, although in a slower manner. |
