Abstract | The United States Public Health Service, Office of Environmental Health, conceived the project to develop a mechanism for evaluating existing information and reducing it to manageable proportions and forms which would enable it to better carry out its responsibilities in research and control programs. The needed mechanism was considered to be a system which would provide an overview and identification of those activities which might lead to public-health hazards. A system design study verified this concept utilizing an overview information center to provide the necessary hazards-identification, evaluation, and alerting system. (Author) |
