Abstract |
In this full-scale study, aqueous solutions of the test substance were administered to groups of 22 - 23 pregnant Wistar rats by gavage for 10 consecutive days (days 6 - 15 post coitum) in daily doses of 100, 400 and 1,000 mg/kg body weight. For comparison, a control group was dosed with double distilled water. Food consumption and body weights of the animals were recorded regularly throughout the study period. The state of health of the animals was checked daily. On day 20 p.c., all females were sacrificed and assessed by gross pathology. The fetuses were dissected from the uterus, sexed, weighed and further investigated for any external findings. Soft tissue and skeletal examinations of the rat fetuses will be performed after appropriate fixation and/or staining. |
