Contents Notes | "The first International Oil Spill R & D forum, co-sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard and the International Maritime Organization, was held in McLean, Virginia during June 1-4, 1992. The Forum responsed to mandates in both the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA 90) and the International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation (OPRC 90), for international cooperation on oil spill R & D. It provided an opportunity for information exchange between national and international organizations, both public and private, from 19 countries, 13 U.S. states, and over 15 U.S. federal agencies. Over 39 foreign organizations were represented, 20 universities, and 18 international research institutes. The primary goal of the Forum was to provide an opportunity to the international community for direct communication and information exchange and to promote cooperation on oil spill research"--Foreword |
