Abstract |
A synthetic resin (Amberlite XAD-4 Quaternary in the OH- form) was evaluated as an adsorption medium for the concentration/isolation of acids, amines, aldehydes, carbohydrates, chlorobiphenyls, esters, hydrocarbons, ketones, phenols, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, and trihalomethanes in drinking water. The approach utilized for this project was the generation of data by maintaining a program to isolate and/or concentrate each organic compound by not less than 50-fold. The adsorption and desorption processes were performed on a small column; however, a scaled-up column was evaluated during three pilot plant experiments. |
