Abstract |
Microwave ovens are now being sold for domestic use in increasing numbers. The ovens should be designed to prevent the propagation of potentially harmful electromagnetic energy fields outside the oven. The report presents preliminary data on electromagnetic radiation power density measurements near operating microwave ovens currently on the market. The reported power density levels were obtained from existing commercial instrumentation for which a far field calibration only was available. Microwave exposure levels under various modes of safety-feature failure were determined. Commercially available power measuring instruments were compared on the basis of readings made in front of an oven operated with the door open. (Author) |
