Abstract |
The existing sulfur-in-fuel oil regulations for the state of Rhode Island limit sulfur content to 1.0 percent for both area and point sources. In part as a result of this regulation, the Rhode Island portion of the Metropolitan Providence Interstate Air Quality Control Region (AQCR) is presently designated as attainment with respect to sulfur dioxide (SO2). The chief output of the study is an assessment of the potential impacts on air quality with respect to the applicable air pollution regulations (National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) and Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) Increments) for each conversion scenario. Thus, the report provides a technical basis for a potential amendment to the existing Rhode Island State Implementation Plan (SIP) concerning the sulfur-in-fuel limitations. |
