Abstract |
The report presents information on the formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDDs/PCDFs) in industrial processes. The following processes were investigated to determine the extent of the formation of these compounds in chemical products as well as wastes: manufacture of chlorophenols, chlorobenzenes and derivatives, aliphatic chlorine compounds, methods involving chlorine-containing intermediates, and use of chlorinated solvents. Furthermore, processes in the pulp and paper industry, metallurgical processes, and brominated fire retardants were also studied to determine the formation of PCDDs/PCDFs. |
