The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 6 held its fourth annual Tribal Environmental Summit on October 18 and 19, 2000 in Dallas, Texas. Tribal leaders from the 65 Federally recognized Tribes and three tribal consortia located in EPA Region 6 were invited to discuss issues of concern to Native Americans with officials of EPA headquarters and regional offices and representatives of other Federal agencies that are responsible for public health and the environment in Indian Country. The theme of the summit continues to be 'To Protect and Preserve' the environment and health of tribal communities. The summit also provided a forum for participants, particularly newly elected tribal leaders and tribal environmental directors, to draw on the knowledge of national and regional experts to increase their understanding of various environmental issues that affect Indian Country. |
