Abstract | The overall objective of the forum is to determine whether or not the Chesapeake Bay Program has sufficient information to answer these questions: What is the overall magnitude of atmospheric deposition of toxics to the Chesapeake Bay tidal waters, to the Baybasin; How does atmospheric deposition of toxics loadings compare with loadings from other point and nonpoint sources of toxic substances; Does atmospheric deposition of toxics pose a more direct route of exposure for the Bay's living resources than emissions from other sources; What are the major sources of toxics deposited within the Chesapeake Bay watershed through atmospheric processes; and What priority should be given to reducing this source of toxics loadings compared to other sources. Other objectives of the forum were to present the relevant information and to open an informal and open dialogue between speakers and participants. In addition, the forum was intended to facilitate interaction between researchers in various ongoing projects, to plan future directions in atmospheric deposition research in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, and determine what is the current state of knowledge concerning atmospheric deposition. |
