Abstract |
Developed in response to the need for procedures that quantitatively assess the function of estuarine wetlands and associated nearshore habitats for fish and wildlife. Thus far, a systematic approach for measuring the function of estuarine wetlands and nearshore habitats that considers the factors has not been available. Consequently, restoration and creation of estuarine habitats have proceeded Haphazardly. Without such procedures, the scientific knowledge required to link the characteristics of estuarine habitats to their function in support of fish and wildlife will not emerge. The approach of the Protocol, and of the procedures and measurements it recommends, is intended to bridge the gap between estuarine habitat characteristics and the habitat's function to support fish and wildlife. |
