Abstract
This manual was developed to provide guidance for those individuals who will develop management plans for addressing and controlling asbestos-containing materials in buildings. The procedures and practices detailed in these pages incorporated current technology at the time of publishing. Originally developed in response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), the procedures and practices presented in this manual provide detailed information on how to develop management plans in order to effectively manage asbestos-containing materials in schools for compliance with AHERA. However, the material presented here can also be used to address non-school situations in which asbestos must be dealt with. As a result, information presented here will include work practices and regulations which a Management Planner will need to be familiar with in order to conduct his or her work in any setting.
