Abstract | Summary data regarding ocular changes following exposure to propylene glycol butoxy ether (PGBE) are compared to those noted in a previous study with propylene glycol monopropyl ether (PGPE). In both studies, F344 rats were exposed 6 hours/day for 9 days over an 11-day period. Reversible keratitis and nonreversible corneal vascularization and splitting were seen with exposure to 503 ppm PGPE, while 600 ppm PGBE caused fibroblastic proliferation, keratitis, and some degeneration in the cornea. No nonreversible lesions observed with PGPE exposure were noted in rats exposed to PGBE. |
