Abstract | Developmental toxicity was evaluated in groups of 12 female Dutch rabbits injected intraperitoneally with methyl methacrylate at dose levels of 0, 0.004, 0.04, or 0.4 ml/kg bw/day, on gestation days 6-18, followed by fetal examination on gestation day 29. The maternal mortality rate was 25% in all treated groups, probably from complications related to the injection. At the high-dose level, the compound was embryotoxic (increased early resorptions) and fetotoxic (reduced fetal weight and skeletal ossification), but was not teratogenic. |
