Abstract |
A catalyst specifically formulated for the dissociation of methanol to hydrogen and carbon monoxide was evaluated for the application of a cold start assist for a light-duty methanol-fueled engine. The dissociated methanol generating systems consisted of a steam-heated methanol boiler, a gas superheated, and a catalyzed dissociation element. The experiment determined the ability of the catalyst to facilitate the dissociation of methanol, and to start and idle a four-cylinder engine on the product gas from the dissociator. The dissociator operation, the equipment, the test results and the test engine specifications are also included. |
