Contents Notes
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requires companies with 50 or more employees to provide time off for health or family issues. Acknowledging that managers may be inconvenienced by having to schedule around employees who are off, it emphasizes that the FMLA is a fair deal, as well as a legal right. Addresses the creative use of intermittent leave, medical certification, paid vacation, paid sick time, and appropriate job responsibilities for returning employees. The FMLA may seem cut-and-dried, but it is actually a law that allows creative solutions that benefit both the employee and employer. Start: Introduction -- Balancing needs: A child is ill -- Scheduling leave: Birth of a child -- Certification: Care for a parent -- Covering costs: Personal illness -- Return to work: Adoption -- Creative solutions: Care for a spouse -- Review.
