Abstract | The paper summarizes the estimates of epiphytic lichen sensitivity to air pollution performed by various authors. Principles and methods for unifying diverse information on lichen sensitivity are presented. The summarizing table contains data on about 250 lichen species growing on tree-phorophytes of 15 taxa in Europe, Asia and part of North America. Air pollutants include SO(sub 2), NO(sub x), CO, dust, heavy metals, etc. Data are given that provide a basis for construction of an index (integral index) for detection of trends and other changes in epiphytic lichens as a response to air pollution.
