Abstract |
The Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health Act (BEACH Act) requires EPA to develop and publish a list of discrete coastal recreation waters adjacent to beaches or similar points of access that are used by the public. This document, the National List of Beaches, fulfills this requirement. This list is primarily organized by state and county. For some territories and Hawaii, the beaches are listed by island. Alaska's beaches are reported alphabetically. Beach names are listed with their monitoring status for the 2003 swimming season. We include only coastal and Great Lakes beaches in these lists. This document gives both EPA and the public a national picture of the extent of monitoring of beach waters, and it will help EPA determine how to better implement the BEACH Act. |
