Abstract |
The paper discusses source characterization of consumer aerosol products. Under a U.S. EPA cooperative agreement, an Aerosol Mass Spectral Interface has been developed that will characterize the particulate and gaseous phases of a consumer aerosol product. The Interface uses velocity differences between particle sizes to determine aerosol particle sizes, a series of skimmers, and particle beams to focus the aerosol for mass spectral analysis. When the Interface is used in conjunction with a liquid chromatograph (LC)/mass spectrometer (MS) or LC/MS/MS system, it is possible to chemically characterize a consumer aerosol product. |
