Abstract
Experience in the practice of disposal of liquid wastes by injection into underground reservoirs has shown that the capacity of disposal wells to accomodate wastes commonly diminishes with time and volume of waste injected. The aim of the research performed was to evaluate the long-term effects of the chemical compatibility, or incompatibility, of specific industrial wastes and native reservoir pore materials that cause a reduction of permeability and hence a diminution in the rate of disposal and the ultimate useful life of a particular well or reservoir. The scope of the investigation was of the nature of a laboratory study employing actual liquid industrial wastes and core samples from selected underground reservoirs wherein both surface and sub-surface conditions of temperature and pressure were employed for extended periods of time.
