Identity and physical/chemical properties -- Sources of human and environmental exposure -- Environmental transport, distribution, and transformation -- Environmental levels and human exposure -- Comparative kinetics and metabolism in laboratory animals and humans -- Effects on laboratory mammals and in vitro test systems -- Effects on humans -- Effects on other organisms in the laboratory and field -- Effects evaluation -- Previous evaluations by international bodies. Bromoethane is a colorless liquid with a vapor heavier than air. It reacts vigorously with oxidizing agents including air and strong alkalis and it is normally used in sealed vessels. Its main use is an ethylating agent in chemical synthesis. This book evaluates the risk to human health and the environment posed by exposures to bromoethane. The main health concerns relating to its exposure are the potential for neurotoxicity, haema-tological and hepatic toxicity, irritation of the respiratory tract, damage to genetic material, and carcinogenicity.--Publisher's description. |
