Abstract
This report describes a study of the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Diagnostic Radiology department. The primary goal of the study was to define how the operating effectiveness and efficiency of MGH Diagnostic Radiology can be increased through the application of advanced communications techniques. The effort required a systems study of the present operating methods of MGH Diagnostic Radiology, followed by the conceptual development of systems to aid in X-ray patient scheduling, X-ray film filing and retrieval, and the reporting of diagnostic X-rays results. These concepts were based on the use of computers and advanced communication methods to aid the efficient flow of patient data and reports both internal to and outside the Radiology department. The concepts have use not only in the provision of better patient care but in the research and teaching aspects of department operation. (Author)
