Abstract |
ERG, under contract to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), organized and implemented a peer review of EPA's external review draft document A Framework for Assessing Health Risks of Environmental Exposures to Children (referred to as the Framework Document). Six experts conducted an independent peer review of the document in a meeting open to the public on June 6-7, 2006, in Washington, DC. The peer reviewers were asked to address specific charge questions. This report summarizes the results of the peer review. The peer reviewers agreed that EPA is to be commended for developing the Framework Document. The document, if implemented and subsequently enhanced with the development of case studies and guidance, will result in an important and appropriate shift in the Agency's approach to risk assessment by putting the child at the center of the evaluations when data indicate that susceptibility could be greater at the younger ages. |
