The Auburn Road Landfill site, located in the Town of Londonderry, New Hampshire, consists of approximately 200 acres which contain four documented hazardous waste disposal areas. Although authorized for only municipal refuse, tires and demolition debris, industrial wastes and 55-gallon steel drums were found. In 1979 the New Hampshire Water Supply and Pollution Control Commission found contamination of surface water and ground water caused by VOCs. Ground water, used as a drinking water source for approximately 275 homes and 260 mobile homes - all within a one-mile radius of the site is the principal problem of concern. The primary contaminants of concern include: VOCs including TCE, extractable organics, heavy metals, and inorganics. The remedial action consists of extending water service to the effected area from another water supply works. The estimated cost for this remedy is $2,372,000 with estimated annual O&M of $57,000. |
