Abstract
A report of a 28- day study with rats of an insecticide, SN 109321, a halogenated alkyl ester (further identity not provided), indicate that doses of 225 mg/kg/day caused neuronal degeneration in 1/3 male rats, and 1000 mg/kg/day affected 2/3 males and 2/3 females. No effects were observed at 50 mg/kg/day. Isophorone, an ingredient, has been linked with cancer in male rats, but not females nor mice of either sex. It was not mutagenic in the Ames assay or mouse lymphoma assay, but it induced sister chromatid exchanges in Chinese hamster ovary cells. It was not teratogenic in mice or rats when administered by inhalation at maternally toxic concentrations. Acetophenone, another ingredient, has an oral LD50 of 815-3200 mg/kg in the rat, dermal LD50 of >20 g/kg in the guinea pig, and it was not lethal to rats exposed to a saturated atmosphere (about 2130 mg/m3) for 8 hours.
