Abstract |
Seventy-five field-captured juvenile cunners Tautogolabrus adspersus were immersed for 2 hours in solution of tetracycline hydrochloride (500mg/L) and monovalent salts nearly isotonic to seawater. After immersion, the 64 surviving cunners were released on an artificial reef in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island. Eight tetracycline-marked juvenile cunners were recaptured 13-19 days after release. Ultraviolet and bright-field microscopy confirmed the presence of daily growth increments in the lapillar otoliths of five of these recaptured fish. (Copyright (c) 1990 American Fisheries Society.) |
