Abstract |
A continuous colorimetric procedure for the measurement of nitrogendioxide in ambient air was evaluated. The evaluation included laboratory experiments, using two different azo-dye-forming absorbing solutions in a Technicon instrument, to test the reliability of calibration techniques. Other procedures that are important in the use of the method were evaluated, and a literature search was conducted to identify possible interferents. The results show that static calibration is unreliable; dynamic calibration using a reliable NO2-generation system is required. Ozone was found to be a significant negative interferent. A detailed method write-up, based on dynamic calibration specifications, was prepared to describe the use of the continuous colorimetric procedure. |
