Abstract |
The report describes the observations from preliminary studies and pilot plant operations that were initiated to upgrade the waste effluent of an integrated textile dye mill. The biological pilot plant was designed to use activated carbon on the basis that the presence of carbon enhances bio-degradation. Tertiary treatment of the effluent was also necessary. Two methods of attaining better water effluent were investigated. A conventional method, the addition of an alum system, with alum recovery was added to the biological treatment system. Although the effluent quality improved, trace color remained in the supernatant. An adsorbent resin system was tested and found effective in upgrading the waste effluent to recreational standards. |
