Abstract | The importance of precipitation-borne nutrients and the pH of precipitation to forested ecosystems is described. A sampling network consisting of ten monitoring stations was established in the vicinity of Missoula, Montana, each with two or more collection devices, in the urbanized-industrialized Missoula Valley. Stations were directly downwind from Missoula, in a generally downwind valley, at a downwind intensive eco-system study site, and at an upwind control site. Weekly precipitation samples were collected at most sites, for a period of one year. (Modified author abstract) |
