Abstract
Irrigated agriculture has been practiced in arid and semi-arid regions of the world since the beginning of man's civilized history. Supplementary irrigation during the growing season is becoming increasingly commonplace in humid regions. Increases in salinity of waters receiving irrigation return flows have been occurring at an alarming rate in the United States during the past two decades. The report describes problems and causes.
